Emachines Hard Drive Failure Model ELI352G

within 1 year, the start up screen showed "3rd Master Hard Drive Failure". This means the hard drive is about to fail completely. The PC was freezing and much slower than normal. Read up on trying to get a new hard drive, but since emachines is apparently no longer supported it is not possbile to get the drivers without paying a service fee. RESULT - Junked the Emachine and bought a Dell. They at least have been around since the 80s and all drivers can be downloaded online. We "left" Dell because of some issues some years ago with laptops, but came back as the "no name" brands may be cheaper, but they are not worth the aggravation.

Emachines - one good Chinese Boat Anchor

What an absolute galactic piece of S.... . I will never, ever buy another emachine, aka money-pit. I can't wait to have a real computer built and take this one out in the back yard for some sledge-hammer therapy-service. Its a $150.00 per day expense in near daily repairs to keep it running, and its obvious from emachines web-site they dont want to deal with customers after we spend money with them; WAL-MART (the disposable goods store) purchased. This is nothing but one big greedy-*** Chinese manufactured ***-job on emachines part, and the'll likely go down with the faulty boat anchors they sell and call computers. What a bunch of numbskulls.

Emachine E528

This is by far the worst company ever. I got this computer for a present last feb and am now having problem with the windows installer and downloading .msi files. I called microsoft and they told me that the windows was purchased from emachines and I have to talk to them. So I called emachines and they told me that I would have to pay either a one time fee of 99.99 or a fee of 149 for a year of support I just choose the 99 for a 72 hour tech support that was yesterday. I talked to a tech and the first thing they did was blame it on a corrupt file or link. We tried several different programs that were .msi format, one download out of 4 so he said that the others were bad. Really? Java is corrupt, Microsoft is corrupt?? So he proceeds and after the call I try downloading the program on another emachines computer I have had for about three years. Low and behold it downloads....those corrupt files...download no problem. I called them this morning and they want me to pay them again. AGAIN? I happily reminded them that I have 72 hours with this one time payment I already paid they put me on hold and never came back I called again *** to the next person that answered and you know what her solution was?? System restory and recover. Really? I paid you 100 dollars for you to tell me something that I already know how to do. I asked them why I am doing this and not REPAIRING the problem to me restore is like a covering up it can happen again. They promptly told me that it happens ever blue moon and that a program change some files or corrupted them on my hardware. See the change here, first download files are corrupted now my hardware is corrupted! (BS. plain and simple, BS in all it's glory. ) I told them then that if I restore without knowing what programs did it in the first place what makes you think it will not happen again...their reply: Because it happens every blue moon. Last convo before I decided I was fed up: Hi, my name is Govindan Sharanji. How may I help you? vicki: yes called before for installing issue. Now I have to do a restore. vicki: I paid for support Govindan Sharanji: I do understand your concern. I will do my best to help you resolve this issue. vicki: I can stop payment because I have not received support. vicki: yes because everyone else has not Govindan Sharanji: Could you please provide me the serial number of your computer? vicki: and this is very concerning vicki: I have a pin number vicki: (pin number) vicki: I already talked to 3 people. Govindan Sharanji: Okay. Govindan Sharanji: Could you please elaborate the issue with your computer so that I can provide you with the correct resolution? vicki: If I was going to restore my computer I shouldn't have paid for the tech support vicki: I can not install .msi files vicki: And you want guys want me to pay again after I already paid. Govindan Sharanji: I do understand your concern, please do not worry I am here to help you. vicki: that is my problem. One guy downloads a program and it works and says that all other .msi are corrupt and this is a lie. vicki: JAva updates, Microsoft updates will not install because there are .msi also vicki: It is something wrong with the computer, because I have another emachines E627 and everything by .msi downloads fine. Govindan Sharanji: Let me see what best I can do to resolve this issue for you. Govindan Sharanji: Before we proceed could you please provide me the serial number of your computer? vicki: okay hold on Govindan Sharanji: Sure. vicki: okay. vicki: (serial) Govindan Sharanji: Thank you for providing the serial number. Govindan Sharanji: I understand that you are experiencing an issue with .msi error. Govindan Sharanji: May I know whether you made any software or hardware changes on your computer before the issue started? vicki: its a headache that it ca not be fixed by you guys vicki: I wouldn't be able to tell you. I mean I have downloaded programs if that what you are talking about, but I have had this computer since feb of last year so. Govindan Sharanji: Since when are you experiencing this issue? vicki: This problem started recently, I haven't downloaded anything recently Govindan Sharanji: Vicki, this is not an hardware issue. Govindan Sharanji: This error message may occur due to error in system files and registery. vicki: okay. Govindan Sharanji: I suggest you perform a complete system recovery to factory settings from the Recovery Partition of your computer in order to fix this issue. vicki: ok so I paid for nothing then Govindan Sharanji: Your computer is shipped with a recovery partition which has all the necessary information to reinstall the operating system and reset it to factory settings. It would reinstall the drivers and application automatically. vicki: so I should get my money back then. vicki: because I could have figured this out myself Govindan Sharanji: You may first try the system recovery steps. Govindan Sharanji: The recovery partition can be accessed before Windows loads; however you are required to use a function key combination. Govindan Sharanji: During the process, all data stored on your computer will be overwritten. This means all your files, such as email and photos, will be erased. Therefore, we recommend you backup your personal data before starting the recovery process. Govindan Sharanji: Vicki, have you logged into windows? vicki: yeah I know how recovery works vicki: I have done it before, but just because I'm recovering my windows doesn't mean the problem is fixed it could happen again vicki: the problem is covered up its not fixed. vicki: I have another emachines that never gave me this problem. Govindan Sharanji: This may happen when the system files are corrupt or modified by any other program that was installed. vicki: and I will never know which program or file was corrupt. vicki: So if this happens again I have to do another restore? vicki: that does not make any sense to do a recovery and never know the problem cause. Govindan Sharanji: System recovery will restore the files. Govindan Sharanji: This doesn't happen always. vicki: So how will I know what to not put on my computer? Govindan Sharanji: This may happen due to automatic updates that are performed in your computer. Govindan Sharanji: System recovery will automatically restore the files we do not need to select each and every file. Govindan Sharanji: To start your system restore follow the below steps: 1.Click on the Start menu and click All Programs. 2.In the program list click the Gateway folder, then click the Gateway eRecovery Management icon. 3.Windows User Account Control may ask for your permission to run this program, click Yes. 4.From the Gateway eRecovery Management window on the left click Restore, then click Completely Restore System to Factory Defaults. 5.On the Confirmation screen, select Yes and click Start 6.Finally click OK to confirm restoration and then your computer will restart. 7.After the computer restarts click Next if you agree to the notice on your screen. Note: The notice is informing you that all your data will be erased. If you have not backed up your data click Cancel now. 8.Next you get a final confimation screen. Click Next, then click OK to start the recovery process. 9.The recovery may take a while to finish. You will get a confirmation screen when it is finished. 10.Click OK to restart your computer. (I disconnected at this point) WOW, 100.00 for that, its ridiculous and this company's tech support is a joke. I am in the middle of a dispute with my credit card company as we speak. PLEASE PLEASE never get a emachines computer YOU WILL REGRET IT!

Support is terrible for emachines. god forbid you need a recovery disc and wish to download one

support is terrible for emachines. god forbid you need a recovery disc and wish to download one from them to get the piece of *** back up and running. All they care about is saling you one for $19.95 plus tax. they claim that there is no way to download it but YOU CAN PURCHASE ONE! won't make the mistake of purchasing an emachines, acer, or gateway computer ever again. Apple mac is the best all round in customer service and products. so so long emachines and windows neither are that great and will be a blessing to get rid of.

I had purchased an emachines desktop July 27, 2012 and I logged it off like you are supposed to. Then after that it would not turn back on and this happened around (12-05-12).

I have babied the pc. Now I am stuck with a $56.90 shipping fee I had to pay because of their junky equipment.

REALLY NOW COME ON! If the company can't make the pcs any better they need to get better people to build them.

Saling is not a word.

Selling would be correct here. You do not "sale" an item. You "sell" it. Or you can place an item up for "sale", not for "sell".

For the love of god, please learn english.

eMachines are *** computers. Rememer PackardBell?

The company went out of business and reformed as eMachines.

Then Gateway bought eMachines, then Acer bought Gateway.

So, eMachines, Gateway and Acer computers are ***. I work on them all day long.

Buy a laptop from a company that has a reputation for making a good product, not a reputation for being 200 dollars. Something crapping out 2 weeks into owning it goes back to the store not to the manufacturer's warranty line. And stop mimicking yourself, it doesn't emphasize your point.

Lap-Top is not a word. It's "laptop".

Not "labtop", or "Lap Top". It's one word, not hyphenated, and it sits in your lap, not on your lab.

Why do I have to pay for something I already own

2 years ago I purchased an Emachines computer for my son. Overall it has worked well for him and done the job. The OS crashed here not to long ago. If you look on the side of the computer there is a long number on a certification decal issued by Microsoft. It proves without doubt that I own and have the right to use use a copy of MS Vista Home. Microsoft sells licenses to computer manufactures in large blocks and gives them the right to resale as installed software on a new machine. When you purchase a new computer that license is contained in the key on the decal. You own that Key # copy of that OS. Emachines is refusing to supply me the software I already own. They are insisting I pay them money to get the software I already own. I told the nice gentleman at the other side of the on-line chat to have a Merry Christmas and that I was going to have roast beef for dinner. You shouldn't have to pay to get something you already own.

Civil Justice Initiative is researching a class action suit against eMachines, a Gateway Inc. product.

In the circumstance at issue a consumer purchased an eMachine EL1352G-01w for $298 which crashed in just 17 days. Acer support (included with the warranty) repeatedly lied to and deceived the purchaser as well as failed to live up to their 7 day return policy when the product had to be sent in to their repair center in Texas. This is alleged to be in violation of their warranty and service agreement. Civil Justice Initiative is seeking statements from individuals with similar experiences to help establish the fact that these "cheaper" model computers are composed of substandard components and designed to break down.

These substandard products are generally sold to the lower income class who is less likely to be able to pursue legal action so we'd like to do something about that. If you've had a similar experience with an eMachine, Acer, or Gateway PC please visit our site at www.civiljusticeinitiative.org for more information or to provide a statement.

By software I assume you mean a copy of the operating system and, in your case, MS Vista Home.

Just about all new computers these days do not come with recovery discs. This is to keep costs down which is passed onto you. When a new computer is first switched on a prompt will come up telling your to burn your own recovery discs. A simple program then guides you through the process. You must have several blank DVD discs on hand to do this. It should be done at first start-up because any programs you have installed afterwards will also be burned to your recovery discs and you will end up having to use a lot of blank discs. All you want on your recovery disc is the basic operating system.

I'm sure that if you had read the manual that came with your computer, it would have told you to burn your own.

Emachines will have to send you a recovery disc for your computer and they can charge you for that.

Emachines Denial of Support

With a Phone Robot, worst of the tech bunch refusing to accept the number you provide this is Denial of Service! Pages of independent eMachines support people advertising for high prices. The phone number I had was to Indians who knew less about support than I did yet they were going to provide support? Perhaps in some minor way but not technical problems with simple answers they should know but do not. My name is Bill Gilson,E-mail:bgilson@***.rr.com. Acer has added Emachines and Gatewaym two low end machines for a low price. The low sale price is accomplished by including trial software as advertisements, Windows minimum software preinstalled and the Eastern Indians for the appearance of support.

Whatever... eMachines has been horrible long before Acer...

Acer mistake was getting eMachine as part of a package deal. I have a Acer laptop purchased in 2004 running xp and it still run like a champ for my business. eMachine desktop purchased in 2004 dead by 2006, eMachine Netbook purchased 01/10 not used for 15 months and restarted using in 08/2011 and dead by 12/11. Of course blame it on Acer...

Gateway (crashit) owned it first. Regardless it is a companywho should be ran out of the US consumer market.

Guest

I have owned several Emachine/Acer products since July 2005. I have personally never had any issues with none of my computers, two desktops and one laptop.

I have also never experienced any issues with customer support. I will mention that before Acer purchased Emachines, you could receive tech support after your warranty had expired for free but now your ask to purchase a new warranty if your warranty is about to expire.

Other than that one small thing, Emachines are great computers in my opinion.

I own, Emachines W3052 purchased July 2005, still works.

Emachines ET1331G November 2009, still works.

Acer Aspire 5336-****, purchased December 2010, still works.

E machines customer support and product

i bought and emachine in november and the hard drive had to be replaced. I had to pay someone to back up my drive and then had to pay for shipping and insurance to emachines repair facility. I waited 3 weeks to get my computer back and now i cannot get onto the internet because the network adapter went bad. I spent over 5 hours on live chat with "India" and everytime i get a different answer and instructions - nothing has worked. I am going to write to their CEO - and maybe send this piece of junk back to him and tell him to stick it where the sun doesn't shine! Do not buy emachines or gateway computers as they will not support their product which is a piece of junk!!!!!!!!!! I am buying a Dell.

:)

I've owned an eMachine ET1331G-03w for about 3 years and have had no problems whatsoever. I've never had a "blue screen", a lockup, crash or anything.

I've added a 2nd Hrd Drive, 2nd dvd-rw drive, a 3.5" floppy and a 2nd fan inside he chassis. All I do is run 3 different anti-virus programs manually. I don't go for the automatic scans that takes up system resources when you're in the middle of my own tasks.

***, I run all 3 AV products plus 2 different anti-spyware programs all at the same time while I'm hogging the resources and have never had a glitch. I love my eMachine and would buy another one in a minute, of course.....if I needed another one.

Guest

as I posted back before I kept getting the blue screen of death I eventualy sent it in a total of 5 times before they decided to replace the computer compleatly with a new one they sent me an aspire am3300 and I must say I am totaly pleased with this one Ihave had this one for going on a year now and its sweet

Guest

I've had this computer for around a year now, but about 4-5 months into owning it have had issues with it seemingly randomly having a blue screen, then restarting.

This would happen at least once a week, lately it had gotten worse to happening several times a week.

It's gotten better in the most recent weeks though...not really sure what i've done aside from constantly keeping the computer updated and updating the drivers for the computer every now and again.

It's aggravating to have it blue screen in the middle of a gaming session...will most likely never buy another E-machine again. I'll just wait and save up a little more money to buy something else.

I took it to Best Buy & they supposedly "fixed it" for $150..well 2 mos later...blue screen & all the other problems.

Poor Technical Support

I purchased a new emachines at the beginning of the year. I had been very happy with their computers and service before they were purchased now the service is unbelievably bad. After three months the unit could not be turned on when the button was pushed. They refused to provide a shipping label saying I had to pay to return the unit--they have no local repair. To top it off the unit did not work when it was returned. They claimed they replaced the mother board, most likely a good tech would check the switch and the power supply. When I called to have it repair again they again insisted on prepayment of shipping. Its a cheap machine and isn't worth two shipping charges to have a small item fixed. The foreign customer service staff is total useless will not discuss any alternates they just say no to everything. I will never buy another, eMachines, Gateway or Asus --all the save company.
